What He Left Behind
This spot illustration collection is a look into the legacy that Neil Armstrong left behind as the first man on the moon. Before becoming an astronaut, he served in the American Air Force during the Korean war and earned three air medals for his service. He also tested military aircraft- notably the X-15. He served under both NASA and NASA's predecessor, NACA. After becoming an astronaut, Neil Armstrong became the first man on the moon, coining the famous phrase, "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind."
I wanted to display just as much of his earthly life as his career as an astronaut. Though that is what he is known for, there is more to his story that was just as important in his progression to be the first man on the moon. For example, he got his pilot's license at the age of 16. His love for aviation and subsequently space travel, all stemmed from his first plane ride at six years old. If not for that, it may have been Buzz Aldrin the first man on the moon instead.
